In fact, a donation form on your website opens more opportunities to market your organization on the web. The donation page is somewhere you can send your social media followers and email subscribers. <\/span><\/p>\n

You could slap a PayPal donate button on your website, but that locks you into PayPal\u2019s platform. Besides, they don\u2019t give you many customization options. <\/span><\/p>\n

Step 1: Create a Gravity Form<\/h2>\n

The first thing you\u2019ll need is a new form!<\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t already, install Gravity Forms to your WordPress dashboard. If you need help with that, read our Getting Started Guide<\/a> documentation .<\/p>\n

Create a new form by clicking <\/span>New Form<\/b> under <\/span>Forms<\/b> on the left side of your dashboard. Give it a name that distinguishes it from your other forms. Use something like \u201cDonation Form.\u201d (If you\u2019re new to Gravity Forms, <\/span>here is our guide on creating new forms<\/span><\/a>.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 2: Build Your Form<\/h2>\n

Like most forms, slimmer is better. Limit the fields on your form to only the ones you need to achieve the form\u2019s purpose.<\/p>\n

In the case of a donation form, you probably don\u2019t need more than the donor\u2019s name, email address, and donation amount. It\u2019s safe to ask a few more questions if you think they are necessary but don’t get carried away. Limit yourself to no more than six fields.<\/p>\n

The most important field on your donation form is the donation amount. Create this form using the Product<\/strong> field under the Pricing Fields<\/strong> tab. Click and drag it into your form.<\/p>\n

Next, customize the product field.<\/p>\n

Give it a name that clearly identifies the field, such as \u201cDonation Amount,\u201d and a description that gives donors instructions to use the field, such as \u201cChoose how much you would like to donate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Under Field Type<\/strong>, change the option from Single Product<\/strong> to either Drop Down<\/strong> or Radio Buttons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Under Choices<\/strong>, create labels and a few options for donation amounts.<\/p>\n

Finally, make sure to check the field as Required<\/strong> at the bottom.<\/p>\n

What if your donors don\u2019t want to donate any of your recommended amounts? It\u2019s smart to give them an option to add their own value.<\/p>\n

Add another choice to your product field. Call it something like \u201cOther Amount.\u201d It should look like this.<\/p>\n

Then add a section Product Field<\/strong>. Give it a name and description. Set the Field Type<\/strong> as User Defined Price<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Now we need to set this field so it only appears if the donor selected \u201cOther Amount\u201d in the previous field. This is called conditional logic. <\/span>Here\u2019s an article explaining how to use it<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

On the Advanced<\/strong> tab, select the checkbox next to Enable Conditional Logic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Create a rule that reads as follows: \u201cShow this field if all of the following match: Donation Amount is Other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Your final step is to add the Field Total<\/strong> field to the end of your form.<\/p>\n

Your donation form is complete!<\/p>\n

Step 3: Embed the Form on a Page<\/h2>\n

Like every Gravity Form, you\u2019ll need to embed this one on a page.<\/p>\n

Open a WordPress page and add a Shortcode Block<\/strong>. Paste your Gravity Forms shortcode into the space provided.<\/p>\n

Gravity Forms shortcodes are based on the form\u2019s ID number. The format is straightforward:<\/p>\n

Replace # with the ID number of your form. You can find this number on the form list page next to the form\u2019s title.<\/p>\n

You can also set the title and description to \u201ctrue\u201d if you want them displayed on the page above the form.<\/p>\n

Step 4: Integrate with Your Payment Processor<\/h2>\n

Now that your form is ready, it\u2019s time to link it with your payment processor so you can actually collect money.<\/p>\n

Gravity Forms integrates with several payment processors. You\u2019ll need to install the appropriate add-on.<\/p>\n
